DAY IN THE LIFE
A Day in the Life
of Approval Guy
From early appointments and closing deals to follow-ups, filming content, and handling customer objections — here’s what a real day in automotive sales actually looks like.
What’s up y’all? My name is Approval Guy.
Today I’m taking you behind the scenes for a real day in my life — from morning appointments and customer follow-ups to closing deals and filming automotive content.
A lot of people ask:
- What does a car salesman actually do all day?
- Is car sales stressful?
- How do appointments work?
- How much follow-up is involved?
- What’s the lifestyle really like?
So today, I wanted to show the reality of the business — not just the highlights.
🚗 Starting the Day
We had two appointments lined up for the day:
- A returning customer ready to potentially close a deal
- A fresh online lead looking for a specific vehicle
That’s the reality of car sales — every day is different.
Some customers are ready to buy.
Others are still exploring options.
Flexibility Is Everything
One thing people don’t realize about this business is how flexible your schedule needs to be.
Originally, I was supposed to work the evening shift.
But one of my customers could only come in early morning.
So I switched my schedule around to accommodate her.
👉 In car sales, your customers’ schedule often becomes your schedule.
That’s just part of the business.
📞 Follow-Ups
A huge part of car sales is making calls, booking appointments, and staying consistent with follow-up.
🤝 Building Trust
Customers buy when they feel comfortable, informed, and confident in the process.
📈 Consistency
Some days you sell multiple cars.
Some days you sell none.
Consistency is what matters long-term.
🔥 Closing the First Deal
The first appointment of the day was a returning customer who had already visited multiple times.
We reviewed the vehicle again, discussed warranty coverage, financing, trade-in value, GAP protection, and monthly payments.
After answering all her questions, she moved forward with the purchase and placed a deposit on the vehicle.
🎯 That’s the feeling every salesperson works for.
Helping a customer feel confident and excited about their purchase.
Not Every Appointment Ends in a Sale
The second appointment didn’t go as planned.
The customer was searching for a very specific plug-in hybrid vehicle that we simply didn’t have available.
That happens all the time in this industry.
👉 A good salesperson doesn’t pressure people.
If the right vehicle isn’t available, you continue building the relationship and keep looking for solutions.
📞 The Hidden Part of Car Sales
Most people think car sales is only talking to customers on the showroom floor.
But a huge part of the job happens behind the scenes:
- Phone calls
- Lead follow-up
- CRM management
- Appointment setting
- Customer communication
- Paperwork and financing
On this particular day, we spent over an hour making follow-up calls and booking future appointments.
🎥 Content Creation After Work
Once the dealership side of the day was finished, we shifted into content creation mode.
We filmed multiple automotive videos, vehicle walkarounds, and YouTube content to help future customers learn more about the vehicles online.
